Emilio Olazabal Memorial – XVII-th Zarautz Weightlifting Prize

This year, like three years ago (2005), we want to bring back the memory of Emilio Olazabal with this special act. Emilio Olazabal did an enormous effort for weightlifting in the region of Gipuzkoa, and sports in general in Zarautz. Even weightlifting of Euskadi has a lot to be grateful of Emilio Olazabal.

A total of 52 participants will be taking part in the 2 championships arranged for this act:

  • 11:00 – 13:30 Young Zarautz Weightlifting Prize
  • 13:30 - 14:00 Prize giving
  • 15:30 – 17:30 XVII. Zarautz Weightlifting Prize first session
  • 17:30 – 19:30 XVII-th Zarautz Weightlifting Prize second session
  • 19:30 – 20:00 Stone lifting (Harrijasotzaile) exhibition
  • 20:00 - 20:30 Prize giving

In the morning, young people will be competing for the prize, and in the afternoon we will have an international championship with high level weightlifters. All the information about Emilio Olazabal Memorial will be available in www.zkehalterofilia.com website.

Young Zarautz Weightlifting Prize

Teams with 4 participants below 16 years old. The teams taking part are selections from Bizkaia, Catalunya and Gipuzkoa.

The championship will be individual and for teams. In the teams championship, the total points will be the sum of the 4 participants and the prize will go for the first one. In the individual championship, the prize will go for the first 3 participants.

XVII-th Zarautz Weightlifting Prize

An individual and teams championship. The total points for a team will be the sum of 4 participant's points of that team, and the winner will be given the ZARAUTZ PRIZE; the rest of the teams will have a small recordatory prize. For the individual championship, the prizes will go for the first 3 classified.

6 teams with 4 weightlifters:

  • La Rioja selection.
  • Gipuzkoa region selection.
  • Les amis de la fonte (Donibane Lohizune).
  • Saint Medard et Jalles, Bourdeaux, France.
  • ZKEhalterofilia.

Also, we will tribute Lionel Gastal, who died in 2007. The last years he did take part in the championship with the team Les Amis de la Fonte. He was a weightlifter, but also a stone lifter (Harrijasotzaile), therefore, as part of the tribute, there will be a stone lifting session inside the championship.
